We ran the social network as a pilot program last semester at our online school. There were a couple hundred kids in it and about 5 teachers. We did very little instruction in the network, it was more of a feeling out process but we did do some. Our government teacher ran a couple unit projects through there and had the kids involved in multimedia sharing and analysis. They ran a discussion board in their group about each project topic. They shared resources and final projects.
The network was mainly a place where kids helped each other with problems. We will definitely run more projects through there next year as it expands, but it really has helped our school form a community and activates collaboration.
I wanted to let you know about a very special session at NECC on Monday morning. ISTE is partnering with the Cable & Telecommunications Association of Marketers to hold an Internet Safety Town Hall Meeting. Below is information on time, location and speakers. Please spread the word. Hope that you can make it.
