About Me:
Professionally, I am an author, programmer, public speaker, and educator. I have been in the field of education for 32 years. But for all of this time, I have been nothing more, than I have been a learner.

It is appropriate here to say that the best learning I have done has not been in classes or from books. It has been from conversations I've had with people a surround myself with and whom I find myself surrounded by, in places like NECC.

The interactive images above are a service of Vuvox (http://vuvox.com/) and currently prepresent the latest Flickr photos tagged with necc2008. When the conference begins, I will replace with with photos that I am taking at NECC.

Always a pleasure to hear you speak. It was the case again this year. I first heard you at NECC in Seattle and have usually had the opportunity every year since then to hear you either at NECC or MACUL. Thank you for doing what you do! You are an inspiration!

Hi David. I think you and I met in 2006 when I brought StudyBuddy.com to NECC. (AOL dropped all things family later that year and StudyBuddy bit the dust in early '07--so much for a committment to kids and education from big mass media entertainment companies! (all sarcasm intended)---anyhoo you posted a discussion topic on how to colloborate across blog lines and I have been thinking about this and have ideas on how to do it and possible technical solutions. I'm gong to be tied at the him to my booth for the afternoons at NECC. I get there on Sat and leave Thurs morn. If you want to stop by the booth, we can chat, or meet for coffee..whatever. I've sent you a friend request so that we can also message each other. Best, June

Looking forward to hearing you speak at NECC. I really enjoy your blog and hope I get an opportunity to meet you at NECC. It'd be great to see you at the Model Lesson session my wife and I will be presenting on Wednesday afternoon:)

LOL at "cher'-vel" from a "nash'-vul" boy. I'm gettin' buzzed about NECC! Flailing about here and in SL (met an avatar just last night who was in there because of a mention you gave it in an Orlando teacher workshop last year) getting ready.

I'm goin' in to the conference planner, which I just started really populating yesterday morning, to run a search for the Warlick so to add.

I like the group planner function and perhaps we should have a NECC ning group to share at least certain pressies--my concern about that is that my planner is already positively awash with those little roundyyellowexclamationpointtriangles that signify schedule conflicts. Now if I could just redundently clone my human...

Presenting at NECC

It’s customary for us to post the NECC session(s) we will be presenting. For me, I’ll be doing some work with David Thornburg for SETDA (State Education Technology Directors’ Association) on Sunday. I’m not sure what I’ll be presenting. I know I will not have much time. If Thornburg presents on science, then I may counter with something on the creative arts. Not sure yet. But it will be fun.

Then, on Monday, at 12:30, in the HGCC Lila Cockrell Theatre, I’ll talk about our students and our worlds, describing three disruptive conditions that are converging on every school, classroom, teacher, and learner. It’s a fairly big-picture session that I have not done at NECC before, though it is being increasingly requested by conference planners as a large group general addresses.

Our Students • Our Worlds

Technology continues to be a hard sell for many. There simply is not enough uncontestable evidence of its value in improving student performance. They problem, however, is not convincing people of the value of technology in teaching and learning, but suggesting a different story of what teaching and learning should look like in a time of rapid change. It's the time of rapid change part that we must make a case for. Thi… Continue

My Presentations @ NECC

It's quiet at Newark airport, where Brenda and I are waiting for our connection to Buffalo, where we'll get a cab across the border to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. I'll be speaking at the Ontario School Boards Association conference tomorrow, and they selected one of my more provocative topics. We'll see how that goes.

It's customary for us to post the NECC session(s) we will be presenting. For me, I'll be doing some work with David Thornburg for SETDA (State Education Technolo… Continue
