NECC day 1 - afternoon

The "Oodles of Google" workshop pointed out how far the open-source/free/web-based apps have come in a short time. The Google tools really focus on collaboration and anywhere-anytime access. The model for how we (need to) teach students to work is changing fast. Makes more sense to put $$ into a fast, relaible internet connection and focus less on server-based and computer-based applications.

NECC day 1

Heading out to workshop #1 "Technology Policy: Keeping Your School—and You—Out of Trouble" Larry "It's AWLL Good" Anderson is a fellow ADE; I can think of no one in education more qualified than Dr. A to lead this workshop. Looking forward to it and coming away with a better AUP!

In San Antonio

And I thought it was sultry at home...San Antonio is 100° making Milwaukee's weather seem chilly by comparsion. Have a nice room on the 11th floor with a lovely view of an old SA hotel and lots of newer places to stay. Off to explore the RiverWalk and make some acquaintences. And have a cold beer!

traveling to NECC

I leave Milwaukee on Saturday morning, arriving in San Antonio around 2 PM after a plane switch in Houston. Not much is planned for Saturday, short of getting acclimated to the Riverwalk area and finding a good local eatery/pub. I registered for two workshops on Sunday and two on Monday. It's a tad warmer in SA than it is here on the western shore of Lake Michigan. Looking forward to NECC and spending time with friends!

Hi Jeff. I actually found you looking through the A-Ha moments and saw you mentioned 1st Class. I would like to get one of the tech guys to dive deeper into how it is used and make more use of the school subscriptions.
As far as what I am doing in the classroom. My favorite apps this year are Voice Thread & Kerpoof for online digital story telling. quikmaps for mapping and embedding information in social studies & language arts projects. I like the online comic/comix creators for some character ed stuff. animoto for photo shows with zing. Hummm, there are more... Plz tell me about 1st Class. Thanks

Hiya Jeff! How was NECC? I used lots of web resources to participate virtually, but it wasn't the same as being there...maybe next year.

Jeff - so glad that you are here this year! Hope we get a chance to catch up and . . . hope you will come to the Birds of a Feather for Digital Storytelling - we expect to launch a year long project of collecting the stories of how ed tech has made a difference for a special exhibition NECC 2009. Can't imagine not having your story - no not the zazillion you have experienced but the ONE you want to share as a special legacy. See you in the throngs of conferencees for sure!
