I'm working as an educational technologist and instructional designer at a school of nursing.
Are there any Nurse educators out there? Any one working in a nursing school?
Hope everyone is well,
Newman

Hey all, I posted a typically rambling set of reflections at http://scottmerrick.blogspot.com/2009/07/on-mall-on-4th-of-july.html on the 4th, and if you're a SLer, a irl ISTE member, and an educator, I'd be eternally grateful for your take on it. Thanks!

Throughout the history of American education, classrooms have been self contained entities. Innovations in technology are giving rise to powerful new models of collaboration. Perhaps in the not quite distant future theses classrooms will merge on a new venture. A venture while making profound changes in the way education is delivered to students.
Students in Junior High, High School and college are now finding means to communicate through the use of social networking tools, such as blogs, wikis…

Audio - I have so much work to do that watching the videos is hard but what I do have is time in the car to listen to audio. Does anyone know if there's one place where I can download presentations from NECC to my itunes?

Are you getting tensed about how to shift you valuable belongings to new location? Now you don’t have to worry much about packing, loading and unloading. With the help of packer and movers companies shifting to new location has become much easier and comfortable. But the main problem is the some people do not hire the services of professional moving companies in order to save little amount of money. But at end they come to realize about the blunder mistake they have done by not hiring the ser…

NECC 2009 was held in Washington D.C. this year and it was a wonderful opportunity to see and experience the latest innovations in Educational Technology. Met a lot of old friends, new colleagues and of course vendor contacts. Perhaps the most promising was talking with educators from the Russian Federation.
There were so many things to see that one cannot see them all. You have to focus in a particular area.
I look forward to bringing forth some partnerships that will benefit the children of…

Overwhelmed with Twitter, or the streaming. Well slow things down a bit and do some deeper processing by following Blog Posts.
First stop is NECC NING Blogs. When you click on the blogs tab at the top of NECC NING you get a stream of blog posts. Once again you can type in particular search words and locate the blog topics that you wish to follow, just add them to your RSS feed on your NING page. (Check add applications on the left hand side to find a multiple RSS feed reader to have on your pag…

Once again, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content that came out of NECC. My largest lesson learned was time management and focus on core area of interest. It is very hard to choose 1 candy when in the candy shop.
I spent a great deal of time on Twitter and realized, after the experience, that much of what was posted could be very easily taken out of context. I often ended up tracking down particular statements to the sessions in which they were said, and then having to locate video clips,…

Ballroom B is filling up fast. Alan November is so popular with NECC attendees because he speaks about technology in education with such levity that time flies, you learn a lot and you have fun.
He has noticed a pattern with pioneering educators: there is a shift of control from the teacher to the class to create content and curriculum.
He started by asking 4 questions to 25 high performing kids. The audience replied using promethean clickers.
1. How often do you think your students walked…

I'm Newman Lanier and I'm an educational technologist at the Duke School of Nursing. I'm interested in eLearning improvements using LMSs, lecture capture, simulations, and virtual worlds.
The NECC conference this year was fantastic. So many of my twitter friends were there and meeting up, referencing each other, and collaborating. I felt that I was able to participate from a distance and had a great experience.
thanks,
Newman

Watching Vickie Davis is always fun. She introduces new ideas, new people, and new geek stuff. So what is the title of this post about? What is QR code?
I only heard about it 10 minutes ago, so I am still trying to figure it all out, but my understanding is that it is a two-dimensional bar code which can store up to 7kB of data, such as: plain text, mobile telephone numbers along with a SMS message, contact cards (e.g VCards), geographic information, images and other information.
I went to a Q…

Thinking about spending your upcoming holidays in India? The thought of taking holidays in India is simply exotic and magical. This spell binding, ancient, mystical civilization is truly awesome in its diversity and extent. Virtually, India is a sub continent stretching from the sky scrapping Himalayas to the widespread deserts in West, the far flung sub Himalayan forests in North East to the blossoming evergreen forests in South.
India boasts three pious rivers, the Indus, the Brahmaputra and…
