I am the director of the K12 Open Technologies Initiative at the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and am the founder of the Classroom 2.0 social network (www.classroom20.com). I blog, speak, and consult on educational technology, and am particularly passionate about Free and Open Source Software, Web 2.0, computer reuse, and computing for low-income populations. I run the Open Source Pavilion and speaker series for the NECC and CUE shows, am the organizer of EduBloggerCon, and hold a series of free workshops around the country (Classroom 2.0 LIVE) to help educators learn about the educational uses of the participative aspect of the Web. I consult for Ning, running their http://education.ning.com site, and I created this social network for NECC, as well as many others. I am also the Emerging Technologies Chair for NECC, a regular columnist at School Library Journal, and a blogger at www.SteveHargadon.com, the Infinite Thinking Machine and TechLearning. My podcast series on educational technologies can be found at www.EdTechLive.com and at Classroom 2.0. My wife and I have four children.

Hi Steve! I will be creating a GaCOMO Ning for our upcoming conference, and I want to model it after the NECC Ning. I have just a few questions:
1. How did you get this Ning to have a .org address?
2. Did you create a new user ID "NECC 2008" specifically for creating this Ning? How did you then attach your normal Ning account to the NECC Ning ID?
Thank you for any pearls of wisdom you can share as I create something in this spirit for our upcoming GaCOMO conference!
I attended your Open Source session this afternoon. It was great putting a face with the online presence I have gotten to know over the past few months. I do enjoy reading and listening to you and especially your passion for K12 open technologies.
You have inspired me to create a Ning for a conference in Oregon next month, and if you don't mind I will "borrow" a couple of your ideas on how to set this up for attendees.
Thanks for creating something that is user friendly and facilitates collaboration for anytime learning.
I'm curious if anyone has used SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology). This site offers structure to starting technology clubs K-12.
